Sunny Side Up Sunday/1 Second Every Day-June 2018

Hello Dear Reader,

I've done it again, hijacked the "Sunny Side Up Sunday" for my "1SE" post instead. I am still loving this app, although I must say I have gotten a little slack with taking a little video every day. The days you see a still photo are obviously the days I forgot. Life gets busy and I just plain forget.

It's just 30 seconds of my everyday life, for the past month, nothing amazing or incredible, just my normal, simple and frugal everyday life. There is a bit of everything, food, Ninja our cat, our little dogs, Lulu and Pippa, progress of the garden, sunrises and sunsets, camping, rainbows, birdsong, roses, bagpipes (if you listen carefully) housework, cold/flu/virus tonics, finicky fish and more.

Thanks, as always, for reading my ramblings, I hope you have the loveliest of days today, doing what ever makes you happy.

One Year Ago-What we bought, spent and ate this week
Two Years Ago-This Weeks 5 Frugal Things on a Friday

BIRTHRIGHT

A group of five activists from the far-left IfNotNow Jewish organization infiltrated a Birthright group currently in Israel this week and offered a tour of Hebron to other members of the group with the "Breaking the Silence" ( This  extreme Left group, heavily funded by the EU is dedicated to exhibiting t Israeli soldiers and officers in the very worst possible light and possibly lead to legal action against  them.).

"IfNotNow", which says it seeks to “end American Jewish support for the occupation,” launched a new campaign this week called "Not Just A Free Trip", in which it says it is using “a diversity of methods” to teach Birthright participants about “the daily nightmare of Occupation.”

It appears that one of the methods is to actively infiltrate Birthright groups without the organization’s knowledge, and influence the other participants regarding the political conflict with the Palestinians by offering them tours and other activities without Birthright’s permission.

The above story appeared today.  So now, the famous "Birthright" free trip to Israel is being used as a Trojan horse by misguided brats to undermine  Israel and besmirch its defenders and people.
"Birthright" funded by well-meaning Jews whose aim is to preserve Jewish identity and pride amongst a population that is largely ignorant of their Jewish identity and are fed consistent anti  - Israel propaganda, finds itself now a tool for the opposite.
.
"Birthright" is basically a Liberal, PC organization, extremely careful about not being perceived as too "partisan" or even too "Jewish".
I know because, as one who has guided these groups on a number of occasions, I am no longer asked to do so. I am blacklisted on Birthright (as I am on many other organizations and companies who lose sleep over being accused of being too nationalistic or partisan).
Nuance, diversity and "feeling the other" are some of the house rules.

I broke those rules some years ago.

I recall clearly the morning that I was scratched from the Birthright list
It was just after the "Oslo" calamity when one morning the general manager himself showed up to see for himself if there is indeed a guide who is suggesting questioning the current consensus - the wisdom and humanity of the recently signed Oslo accords with the terrorist  Arafat and his minions.

It was Mr. Brug himself, the brother of the then prime minister Ehud Barak (give away the Golan to Assad, flee south Lebanon in the middle of the night, offer Srafta 97% of Judea Samaria...) who was there to inspect and question me.(I wonder how he got that job?) In answer to his questions did not veer from the truth and so I was never asked back again.
The political Commissar was outraged. All organizations who operate "Birthright" including the OU will not hire me for fear of their superiors who hold the purse strings.

I recall all this today as I read the first item about the spoiled brats who proudly, as celebrities, fell into the arms of the waiting traitors of "Breaking the Silence".

So what will happen now?

I am sure that Birthright is embarrassed and worried about this precedent. They should be.
What is the solution? Extreme vetting? Refund demands? A well-funded PR campaign explaining how Birthright really does present all sides? Extreme surveillance of the group at all times?
All the above might very well just encourage the martyr/celeb attraction of the rebel being ignorant, selfish, ingrate as they are.

What about this idea? What about just telling it like it is. What about explaining why we are indeed right and they are wrong. It is really very easy. I do it all the time. Of course, that was my last job at times but no matter, I am here to talk about it..
In my experience, this is what makes Jews proud of who they are and of their embattled Jewish country.

Only this

If called upon, I will give free seminars to Birthright guides and detox them from the fears that have accompanied them for so long.

PC has not worked. Young people can tell when they are being told the whole truth or when hearing a prescribed script.

Let's make our young people proud and give them the tools to tell it like it is.
PC be damned

The facts are on our side. Use them.
I guarantee great results

Weekend Book Reviews

Grounds for Remorse by Misty Simon is the second book in the Tallie Graver Mystery series.  Tallie hopes she is done with murder and can get back to her part-time job at her family's funeral home and her cleaning business.  All is not well with her best friend Gina.  Gina discovers that her perfect boyfriend is actually married.  Her parting words threatening come back to haunt her when he is found dead inside her locked home.  Tallie sets out to find the killer and clear Gina's name.  The setting and characters are fun.  The story features the slightest touch of romance but not so much that it crosses over into a love story rather than a cozy mystery.  The mystery was strong.  I thought I had it figured out, but I got a surprise at the end.  This is a great second book in the series.

Meg Macy's second book in the Teddy Bear Mystery series is Bear Witness to Murder.  It is autumn in Silver Hollow and time for Oktobear Festival.  Sasha is the manager of the Silver Bear Shop and Factory and is busy with all of the bear related activities.  Her sister is one of the artists creating a bear for the Bears on Parade.  Unfortunately Sasha's high school rival Holly is back in town and causing problems for everyone.  The mystery portion of this book was good.  My first problem with this book was the weak actions of Maggie regarding her boyfriend.  The second was Sasha's mother's behavior with Sasha's ex-husband.  I found both of these characters annoying.  I hope they turn into more normal characters for book three.

disclosure:  I received these books through NetGalley but was not otherwise compensated for these reviews.  All opinions are my own!

What we bought, spent and ate this week

Hello Dear Reader,

As I mentioned yesterday, the boys are away up north on a fishing charter, lovely hubby messaged me  this morning to say they were back at the port and were starting to pack up the truck for the long drive home, they should be home some time late this afternoon. And wow, what a difference on the food front this week, with two hungry men out of the picture. I haven't had to cook very much at all this week, which was a lovely change. I have an inkling that this is what our typical week may be like once and son and partner move next door full time. Cook once and eat twice or even thrice!

I made Slow Cooker Pork and Beans on Sunday and that did us for two nights plus one meal for the freezer, then I cooked Salmon, Corn and Potato Chowder and again that stretched to two nights with a couple of bowls for lunches. Then on Thursday I made Thai Roasted Salmon with Coconut Rice, there was some of the rice left over and that has been frozen down to go towards another meal sometime.

Unfortunately I don't have any photos of what we bought this week, lovely hubby always takes the photos for me after he has done the shopping, I am sure he would have taken then photos, but as he is away I don't have access to his phone camera😔I do have the dockets though.

What we bought
Northside Discount Fruit Barn

Marjax Meats

Aldi

Coles

What we spent
Northside Discount Fruit Barn-$19.55
Marjax Meats-$11.30
Aldi-$92.97
Coles-$8.45

TOTAL-$132.27

What we ate

Saturday-It was just me for dinner and I had a bowl of leftover Beef and Black Beans and steamed Basmati rice from earlier in the week

Sunday and Monday-Slow Cooker Pork and Beans with Chorizo and steamed Broccolini

Tuesday and Wednesday-Salmon, Corn and Potato Chowder

Thursday-Thai Roasted Salmon with Coconut Rice and Pak Choy with Oyster Sauce

So a week of not a lot of cooking action and lots of leftovers used up! I just love it. What was on your menu this week? Does your menu change when certain family members come and go?

Have a lovely day

Parshas Balak – Torah Tavlin

TORAH TAVLIN
By Roy S. Neuberger

Why do people hurt themselves?

People have been hurting themselves for 5778 years, since our first parents hurt themselves profoundly in Gan Eden and bequeathed a life of suffering for their children until the end of time.

We tend to think of ourselves as normal and sensible, yet we hurt ourselves constantly. And this does not refer just to minor pain, but in fact to the most grievous, almost unbearable mental and physical trauma imaginable. And we do it to ourselves! This, my friends, is preposterous and absurd … yet it is true.

There is in fact a reason. There is a terrible enemy called the Yetzer Hara. In daily life most people ignore the Yetzer Hara, but one should not ignore it, because it is worth all our strength to defeat this enemy.

And we know the cure! “My son, I have created the Yetzer Hara and I have created Torah ‘tavlin’ … as its antidote.” (Kiddushin 30b) It is so simple! Yet, since the Yetzer Hara will do almost anything to separate us from Torah, it is the fight of our lives!

I want to try to illustrate the almost irresistible power of the Yetzer Hara. There was a great enemy of Israel named Balak. It is interesting that our Parsha is named after him rather than Bilam, because Bilam appears to be the main player in this week’s huge drama. But, upon examination, this does not prove to be the case. “The Sages say that Balak was a great sorcerer, even more than Bilam, and he performed his sorcery by means of a certain bird called ‘Yadua.’ [For this reason, he was called ‘Balak ben Tzippor,’ since he was] the ‘son of a bird.’ He was able to see things through the sorcery performed with a bird…. The bird was his ‘father’ and ‘mentor.’” (Or Hachaim on Bamidbar 22:3)

All the ensuing troubles which came to Israel, the curses, the attempt to destroy us, which almost succeeded, the attempt by the daughters of Moav to corrupt us with the resultant death of 24,000 Bnai Yisroel … all this came about because Balak ben Tzippor could “see” the future through his sorcery. Can you imagine that our Great Nation was almost destroyed by one man who could prophesy through means of a bird? What is the frightful power that he possessed?

This, my friends, is the Yetzer Hara. If you think you are bigger than the Yetzer Hara, you are so mistaken! If you think you can ignore the Yetzer Hara, you are so mistaken! If you think that you have defeated the Yetzer Hara, you are almost certainly not only mistaken but in great danger,
G-d forbid!

Recently, I had to stay in the hospital. This came as a major shock. I went to the doctor because I had been in pain for several days and had not been eating. My doctor looked at me and said, “You are seriously ill. You are going right over to Emergency Room. Don’t be surprised if you need surgery tonight!” That was a shock! I was quite shaken up. Before I knew it, I was in the emergency room.

The Gemora says, “A person is obligated to bless [G-d] for the bad just as he blesses [Him] for the good, as it says: ‘And you shall love Hashem, your G-d, with all your heart … with the good intention and the evil intention … even if he takes your life … whatever measure He metes out to you….” (Berachos 54a)

I tried to keep this in mind through all the pain and perplexity, the needles and the beeps and the doctors and nurses. And – you know what? – it’s not easy! How do you accomplish this?

One of my enduring memories is the leviah of Rabbi Moshe Dov Stein zt”l. Just before his petira, one of his sons asked him, “Tattie, how are you feeling today?” to which he answered, “Baruch Hashem, worse!” Please contemplate these words. This man was not suffering from a cold. He was about to die and he knew it. Yet, he blessed Hashem! Here is a person who believes “b’chol levavcha…. With all his heart” that whatever Hashem does is good!

I received a powerful lesson in the hospital. It was very difficult to bless Hashem for my condition. I had no kavana. I could not say it with enthusiasm.

But, actually, I realized that I could still say it.

Maybe to say it without enthusiasm is a first step toward saying it with enthusiasm. I hope so. Because that is how I said it. And then I began to think about Balak and all the mighty and terrifying forces of tumah that he tried to summon against Israel, chas v’Shalom. And I started to think about the towering tsunami of tzouris that appears poised to devour us today, and I started to realize that this is the answer.

It is all l’tova! There is nothing they can do to us! If we ensconce ourselves in Hashem’s protection – which means His Torah – and make this our world, then all will turn out to be a bracha. I thought about all the trouble that Am Yisroel has battled over the millennia and all the trouble that I personally have battled, and I realized that it has all led to bracha and to the all-encom-passing embrace of Hashem! He is taking care of us! He is watching over us! Whatever it is – “bad” or “good” – He is with us totally.

“Please be revealed and spread upon me, my Beloved, the shelter of Your peace. Illuminate the world with Your glory, that we may rejoice and be glad with You. Hasten, show love, for the time has come, and show us grace as in days of old.” (Yedid Nefesh)

My Scandinavian Home Sunset Beach Gathering!

This gathering was made possible by Granit  - all words and thoughts are my own.

Do you have a favourite beach? One of my all time favourites is Ljunghusen on Sweden's south-western tip. Dunes and powdery white sand stretch out as far as the eye can see and the Baltic waters are crystal clear and a cool, blue-grey. Oh and the beach is almost completely deserted! I've always felt it would be the perfect spot for a beach gathering - and what better than a My Scandinavian Home summer celebration to kick off the start of the Swedish holidays?!

Sarah Brooks-Wilson and I nipped to Swedish brand Granit, who sell an assortment of interior design and functional storage in timeless neutral colours - as well as a local DIY store to pick up everything we needed.

We decided to keep the look simple to match the surroundings, opting for natural materials such as linen, bamboo, sea grass, wood and glass and soft, muted colours. The table was constructed from a wooden palette (the only heavy item!), which we covered with a linen towel.

In my mind no gathering is really complete without flowers, what do you reckon?! To match the wild setting we filled glass vases and jars with simple blooms such as Baby's Breath and Queen Anne's Lace and tied left over sprigs to bottles and napkins.

The food was kept equally simple - with tapas style olives, charcuterie, salad, bread, cheese and the most delicious orange and sultana loaf baked by Sarah (she makes a mean cake!).

You'd never find a Swedish home without one of these cheese slicers! Incidentally, the irregular shaped plate it's resting on is actually made from eco paper - such a great find!

The light was pin sharp (it's an area famous for artists because of this) and the evening air balmy (we were very lucky in other words - especially for Sweden!). Even so, the sky shifted constantly between dramatic, bruised clouds which threatened to leave us running for the car one minute and a golden sunset the next!

For the awning / wind break we used wooden poles from a local DIY store (make sure they have a spiked end so they are easy to bury in the sand) and 2 metres of sheer white fabric tied on with elastic bands. It honestly took about 2 minutes to put up!

Here's a quick run-down of all of the other items we used in case you'd also like to recreate this for an evening at the beach:

We had a truly magical evening - and now I know how simple it is to set-up, we'll definitely be doing it again soon!

There are only two thing I'd do differently - the first would be to take a wheel barrow or some kind of mode for transporting the stuff down to the beach... and the second would be to ask Sarah to bake even more of that cake!! It was sooooo good!

Do you have a beach near you for sunset gatherings like this? If so, I'd love to hear about it in the comment section below!

And speaking of beaches and summer, I hope you don't mind that, as per every year, I'll be paring down to three posts a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) over the next three weeks to enjoy a little down time with my family and make the most of everything the Swedish summer has to offer.

I hope you are able to enjoy a little down time to njuter av solen too!

Skål to sea, sands and sunsets!

Parshas Balak – Bilaam said to Balak . . .

Parshas Balak
by Rabbi Pinchas Winston

Bilaam said to Balak, "Build me seven altars here,
and prepare for me seven bulls and seven rams.”
(Bamidbar 23:1)

THE TALMUD SAYS something that could easily be taken for granted, but shouldn’t be. It has so much to say about how Hashgochah Pratis works, and clearly few people know it, based upon their approach to Jewish history.

From the Talmud:

Rav Yehudah said in the name of Rav: A man should always occupy himself with Torah and the commandments even if it is not for their own sake, because from [occupying himself with them] not for their own sake he comes to do so for their own sake. As a reward for the 42 sacrifices which Balak, king of Moav, offered, he merited that Rus should come from him and from her descended Shlomo . . . (Sotah 47a)

The first part of this statement requires discussion, but is certainly understandable. Torah is powerful and has a way of impacting even people who do not intend to be impacted by it. So as bad as it is to learn Torah for the wrong reasons, it is still better than not learning it all, because doing so can lead to learning it for the right reasons.

Just how far does this idea go? There must be many examples over the course of Jewish history of those who sat down to learn Torah for the wrong reasons, and ended up learning it for the right reasons. I’ve personally witnessed some of these stories.

However, the Talmud doesn’t turn to such examples to make its point. It doesn’t even use a story about someone learning Torah or performing mitzvos for the wrong reasons. Balak never did come to do either for the right reasons. Instead, he had a descendant he would have preferred not to have if he knew who she would be.

In fact, Balak probably wouldn’t have offered his 42 sacrifices if he knew at the time that eventually they would result in the ancestress of Moshiach. He offered them as a bribe to God, to allow him to harm the people God said to leave alone. Why does he deserve ANY reward at all?

He didn’t. And, he certainly would NOT have considered it a reward to provide the family line of Moshiach Ben Dovid. Even in the World-to-Come, where a person no longer harbors the evil feelings he had in this world, Balak will not have the satisfaction of knowing that he set in motion the birth of the righteous Rus, since he had no intention of doing so.

Rather, the Talmud is teaching an additional lesson with its example of non-altruistic intentions leading to altruistic results. It is teaching that a good act, even if done for the wrong reasons, will ultimately have a good result. Perhaps not for the person who did it, and they certainly won’t be rewarded for it if it had not been their intention, but for Creation as a whole. Offering sacrifices to the RIGHT God, even for the wrong reason, had a RIGHT effect.

It all comes back to this idea of energy which, by definition, is spiritual. God is the Source of all energy, so by definition every thing has to be spiritual, even if it can act very physical. Energy may flow from a waterfall to a generator and then through wires to a house, but it is God Who supplies the energy in the first place. It doesn’t just exist in Creation by itself.

Therefore, whenever a person does anything, they are tapping into Divine energy to accomplish it. If it is a holy act, they draw from the Divine Source directly. If they perform an unholy act, like witchcraft, then they draw from it indirectly. Because of the impurity associated with the act, the energy has to be rerouted away from its holy Source, and to give the impression that witchcraft has power of its own, to test the belief of those turning to it (Chullin 7b).

How far does this idea go?
VERY far.

This is why some extremely destructive acts by some of the worst enemies of the Jewish people have eventually resulted in something very positive. It had been Hitler’s, ysv”z, plan to exterminate the Jewish people, but instead he inadvertently accelerated the next stage of redemption. When people say that “Eretz Yisroel was built upon the ashes of the Holocaust,” they don’t realize to what extent this is true.

We are well aware that the Nazis went to great trouble and expense to concentrate Jews in specific locations, either in work or death camps. What people do not realize is that this was only possible after “ingathering” Jews from around Europe, after detaching them from their homes and communities. It made redemption and aliyah more attractive for all those who could not think in those terms previously.

The Nazis also made a point of numbering every Jew, regardless of religious affiliation. The Germans did not care how religious a Jew thought they were or wanted to be. They laid down the rule: a Jew is a Jew is a Jew, something we had forgotten and let get in the way of our national unity.

They also made a point of reducing each Jew to their most basic reality. They took away all differences that previously separated one Jew from another, religious and material, until we were all basically the same. Even intellectual differences were eroded over time because of the constant cruel and inhumane treatment. It was “Achdus,” the name for Jewish unity, but from the other side of reality, the evil and impure side.

It is debatable as to what positive results came from such evil and destruction. And, there will be an accounting for how much blood had to be spilled to make it possible, something that should have happened positively, from the side of good and holiness. We can only talk about what we see, and that is, the Jewish homeland is back in Jewish hands, and built up in preparation for the Final Redemption.

Some will argue that there is nothing positive about the modern, secular State of Israel, certainly not from a Torah and redemption point of view. They would have been impressed had Torah Jews been the ones to re-found the Jewish commonwealth, and established a Torah government on the land.

THAT, the Ramchal and the GR”A explain, is only possible when the merit exists for such a fantastic turn of events. THAT is the kind of story end that results when a significant amount of the nation does teshuvah first, and the leaders somehow manage to get their followers in line, and with each other. That was not pre-war Jewish people at all.

So, as the Ramchal and GR”A explains, when that is the case, then the Jewish people must first sink as low as the dust before they can finally rise once again. They must hit the lowest of lows before they can finally move back in the direction of redemption. And even then, they explain, the people only have to do a minimal amount of work to rise up again, the bulk of the salvation being God’s only. That has certainly been the last 80 years, and now we await Moshiach Ben Dovid to take us the final distance.

So, in the end, unbeknownst to Balak, he helped lay the foundation thousands of years ago for the redemption for which we are anxiously awaiting. Let it be OUR sacrifices that help finish the job, from the side of holiness.

On that note, for those who already contributed to my charidy.com campaign this week, to HELP with the redemption process, I thank you very much. For those who would still like to, the campaign runs until Thursday night, b”H. Here’s to redemption, the proper way!

Parshat Balak – The Real Need for REFORM

BS”D
Parashat Balak 5777
Rabbi Nachman Kahana

Balak, the Midianite was appointed king over Moav for the duration of the national emergency; he invites the notorious Bilam to save Moav from the existential danger called the “Jewish problem”.
Bilam arrives and Balak requests him to aid in the war effort by cursing the Jews that they be defeated in battle. The blatant question is: Balak could have arrived at the same resolution to his problem by requesting Bilam to bless Moav to win the war, rather than cursing the Jews to lose the war, why didn’t he?
The answer is: we are dealing here with pathological anti-Semites who are more interested in destroying the Jewish nation than in advancing their own interests.

Jewish Anti-Semites

History repeats itself, as we find ourselves in a similar situation today. The UN is busy condemning Israel for every pretext under the sun rather than dealing with life and death situations in the Arab world. Hundreds are murdered daily in Syria, Iraq, Libya and Yemen; but who cares in the face of the ultimate international disaster if Shulamit would build another toilet for the kindergarten in Kedumim.
Am Yisrael is used to goyim who are anti-Semites; they get it through the milk of their mothers; however, we are always shocked when confronted with Jewish anti-Semites. Jews who intend and perform in ways meant to weaken the Jewish presence in the world, especially Medinat Yisrael.
If one wishes to be non-observant it is between him and God. However, when individuals band together to create a movement to weaken the Jewish nation, that is called self-hate and self-anti-Semitism. We have been dealing with such a movement for over 200 years; it is called the Reform movement.
What began as an attempt to bring Jewish life into the modern age, the early German-Jewish reformers of the mid-19th century emphasized the universal ethical teachings of the prophets. They denied that ritual observance was ordained by God and therefore inviolate, but viewed halacha as a means to reinforce the prophetic ideals of justice, freedom, and peace.
The early rejectionists of Halacha and the unique status of Jews as God’s chosen people, and in fact their rejection of God the Creator, has degenerated into a movement where most of their younger generation is now anti State of Israel, and would not shed a tear if the Medinah did not exist.
However, what disturbs me with the Reform movement is their lack of intellectual honesty.
Reform implies that the reformer is well versed in the matter that he believes requires reforming, and he has an agenda for how to rectify its present shortcomings.
However, contemporary leaders of the reform movement and certainly their parishioners might be well versed in psychology, sociology and history of the Catholic church, but have little or no knowledge of Judaism. To reject 3300 years of traditional Judaism without even knowing what it is, is the height of anti-intellectualism.
The honest way to approach the so-called need to reform Judaism is to live a one-year cycle as a Halachic person, Shabbat, kashrut, family purity, Torah study, attending bet knesset and visiting Israel. At the end of which time one can decide that all the previous generations of tens of thousands of learned rabbis and millions of their congregants were primitive in their thinking, archaic in their traditions, oblivious to the needs of society, and unsophisticated in their approach to their fellow human beings. The rabbi of his temple is a man of today; so sophisticated that he can enjoy eating pig and lobster, so enlightened that he can marry together Tom and Mike, and so open minded that he understands and even justifies Arabs murdering Israelis sitting in a bus.

The Real Need for Reform

So, for the enlightened Reform Jew who might seriously attempt to know what he is reforming, let’s start at lesson number one.
When putting the pieces of a puzzle together, the first and most important objective is to build the four sides of the framework, so here are four of the major rudiments of Judaism.
1- There is an infinite entity that created all that exists ex nihilo (from nothing), including time itself. Don’t attempt to analyze or even contemplate what infinity means, it will drive you mad, just as one should not stare at the sun which will cause permanent blindness in less than a minute. Darwin’s Theory of Evolution has been proven wrong by leading paleontologists because the 13.7 billion years that our planet is in existence is too short a time for randomness to evolve man from a lone atom.
2- That entity which we call God, imposed His prerogative as Creator to select the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob to be His chosen people. All the ancient empires and modern day would-be empires that conquered vast regions of the world believing that their “Reichs” would last 1000 years are gone. Whereas the Jews – God’s chosen people – are alive and thriving in our ancient home land after 2000 years of exile, and are experiencing unprecedented miracles in every walk of life.
3- God revealed himself at Mount Sinai and presented to the Jewish nation His 613 mitzvot (commandments) to insure our unique sanctity. God has been our continuous guardian even at times when the Jewish people acted in a manner inappropriate for a holy nation, and were forced to pay for our indiscretions. The return to our ancient home land is the highest expression of God’s love for the Jewish people.
4- Death is the final stage of our physical appearance in this world, however the eternal Jewish soul lives on in another dimension. It is here that each Jewish soul is shown to what degree he or she lived their lives according to the dictates of the Creator through the Torah. It is here where reward and punishment are decided. A Jew who does not reach out to the Torah, being content with hiding behind the hollow excuse “my rabbi never told me” (because the Reform rabbi did not know or did not believe), will be hard pressed to answer for his sins.
In conclusion:  What really is in need of reform is the Reform Movement itself. The door is open to all who wish to return to the Jewish way of life; to reconnect to the 3300 year long chain of Jews beginning with our father Abraham and continuing to the end of days.
Shabbat Shalom,
Nachman Kahana

Summer Camp Has Begun

My Latest Crafting Project

Where has the month gone?

I can’t believe I have been so long without sharing anything here.  I’ve got to confess that I am finding it easier to do videos than to sit and type.  Maybe because I find myself more restless.

In no particular order:

  1. I broke my giant drying rack — probably beyond repair — and my current utility bill shows it. Sigh, but to be fair using the dryer was easier when I couldn’t go up the stairs and someone else had to do the laundry.  Then to add insult I was the one, who when I did go upstairs, broke the thing.  Sigh!
  2. I did do some traveling to visit with family.
  3. I’ve been doing some thrifting and some crafting.
  4. I’ve been baking, cooking, and trying to use up some things.
Doesn’t sound like much of a month, but somehow I’ve been busy.

We did try a new to us recipe that was pretty good.

Afterthoughts of a Non-Political Visit by Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge

Afterthoughts of a Non-Political Visit by Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge

“The duke is not a political figure,” Quarrey went on. “He’ll be here to see a little bit of the country and to get to meet some of the people here.”

England's Prince William refused to meet with Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat in the Old City over fears that such a move would be interpreted as support for Jerusalem being Israel's capital. According to the Hadashot report, William would only agree to meet with Barkat at the British Embassy in Ramat Gan.

British Prince William said Wednesday that "Britain stands by Israel and works to preserve its future and prosperity."

“I’m very glad our two COUNTRIES work so closely together and have had success stories with education and relief work in the past, so, long may that continue,” the royal told Abbas

An Interesting Synopsis
Prince William's visit to Israel is elegantly, royally late—by several decades. Finally, the regular group of naysayers at the British Foreign Office has been defeated, and courtesy of Prime Minister Theresa May's government, Israel is receiving an official visit from a member of the most well-known family in the world. This is an important gesture—even if it's a late one—to mark Israel's 70th Independence Day.

In political terms, it's true: Prince William, like the rest of the family, is a chess piece used to achieve the strategic goals set by the British government.

But there is symbolic meaning here—by virtue of the continuity of the monarchy in the British Isles from the days of William the Conqueror. One of the biggest mistakes made by the elites in the West is the contempt toward symbols that create meaning and identity. In the era of globalization, the British monarchy is nevertheless more popular than ever; perhaps because people need anchors of tradition in a fast and changing world.

The British feeling of isolation is further increasing because when turning to its great partner across the Atlantic Ocean, the United States, they encounter President Donald Trump. The British premier's relationship with Trump is worse, according to rumors, even than the relationship between German Chancellor Merkel and Trump. YNetnews
