I would really love to know if this kind of post is what you want to see, week in week out, I do tend to buy very similar things and eat the same kind of food (fish, seafood, meat, veggie or pulse based meals) so I am wondering if you are all sick and tired of seeing this post? Please let me know if you are and I will think of another approach.
Having said that I love nothing more than to try a new recipe or perfect one that I felt needing improving or adjusting to our taste and budget. I think it might me my favourite hobby. My blog is still in it's infancy, really, but when I look back at some of the recipes I started with, I realise how I have grown, food wise, and I feel, for me, it's been a good thing. Lets just say I am not sick of it yet and I do hope you're not either.
Now that that is out of the way, I know, I love a bit of a look into what other people are buying and eating, I don't go grocery shopping very often, thanks to lovely hubby, but when I do I love to look at the grocery trolley's of other shoppers or the groceries on the conveyer belt ahead of me. I don't judge, I just wonder what meals will be one their table for the week ahead. Weird? Maybe, but I am quite obsessed by food, it is so ingrained in me and is likely to be for the rest of my life.
I am talking about food that brings family together at the end of the working day, not chef quality, Michelin Starred, just humble food made at home with love. It doesn't need to cost a fortune to be good. Simple food, not too messed with, is a joy.
This is what was on our family table this past week-
What we bought
Shopping from Coles and Aldi
Shopping from the Northside Discount Fruit Barn
What we spent
Coles-$70.05 + $6.30 later in the week
Aldi-$65.32
Northside Discount Fruit Barn-$54.02
Marjax Meats-$4.00
TOTAL-$199.69, WOW! really above my target of $150.00, it was the bulk buy of Cocoquench and the bag of frozen Salmon that pushed it up this week and also a sneaky bulk buy of an energy drink (obviously not in the photo, but it was on the docket) that lovely hubby buys for when they go out fishing all day and sometimes into the night! I hate that they drink it. What's a girl to do?
What we ate
Friday-Leftover Steamed Fish with Asian Greens
Saturday-Honey Prawns, steamed Basmati rice and Choy Sum
Monday-Prawn Rolls
Tuesday-Honey Garlic Salmon with steamed Broccolini
Wednesday-Tempura Whiting, steamed Basmati rice and Silverbeet
Thursday-Coconut Caramel Chicken with steamed Basmati rice and Bok Choy
I know how lucky we are to eat so much seafood, the fish (except for the Salmon) is all caught by the boys and the prawns come from a guy that lovely hubby knows who owns a trawler and gets them as a barter system.
What item/items pushes your grocery bill up? Do you barter for produce?
Have a wonderful weekend.
