This Weeks 5 Frugal Things on a Friday

Hello Dear Reader,

You know, I only just realised that Easter is next week! Where have I been? As you know I don't go shopping very often and avoid commercial TV, so right there could be the problem of almost overlooking Easter. I am sure it would have occurred to sooner if I went to the shops or watched TV more often. Anyway this realisation has made me get my skates on and organise a family get together over the Easter break. I also put in a request for the Tuesday following Easter as an ADO, so, hello 5 day break next week.

Our darling daughter and partner won't be down for Easter as they are flat out in their business which is wonderful, also my daughter plans on coming down at the end of April through to middle of May to do some guest spotting in Brisbane. They are both talented Tattoo Artist's and want to get their name re-introduced down here for their planned move within 2 years, it will be so lovely to have her here for an extended period of time.

Tomorrow I plan on going into the city with my sister and her grandchildren, she won some tickets to the ABC Science Festival and asked if I wanted to go with her, I jumped at the chance to spend some time with some of my most favourite people in the world. We will pack a picnic and have lunch at Southbank, it should be fun. Then on Sunday, lovely Hubby and I will be getting stuck into the yard as it is looking a bit (or a lot) messy and needs some time put into it.

Now on with the frugal stuff-

1. Used 3 magnificent free Avocados to make a lovely Mexican dip for an easy dinner one night, the avocados were from a huge tree that is on the block of land that our daughter and her partner have purchased recently, I am ecstatic that they are moving back down here from Cairns. It is a 2 year plan so I will have to be patient, but at least they have secured the land.

Delicious and easy dinner of a Mexican Layered Dip, I also made a pan of Mexican Potatoes, I will post that recipe soon as they were so yummy

2. Continued to clean out the fridge and freezer of bit and bobs, I made a batch of Spinach (Silverbeet actually) and feta savoury rolls using the last of the frozen puff pastry and some silverbeet I had par-cooked and frozen before it went over.

3. Made another soup using up some roast pumpkin I had in the freezer, it wasn't the best pumpkin to begin with, so I gave it some love in the form of cumin, coriander and chilli flakes, roasted it and then froze it for later use. I used the chicken stock left over from roasting some chicken for the boys lunches while they were on the Marlin Fishing Tournament last weekend, used the last of the red thai curry paste from the fridge and made a Spicy Thai Pumpkin soup which we had for dinner last night with some home made garlic bread.

4. Picked a couple of good sized sweet potatoes from my little veggie garden, I am so happy with this little win, I have so many garden failures for one reason or another, it feels good to actually harvest and use some produce.

5. Nearly finished the top of a little quilt that has sat unloved and unfinished for quite some time, the solution was hidden in my small stash of fabric the whole time! As I had run out of the background fabric I thought I was unable to move on with this project, I just need to think outside the square, so to speak.

I guess because I live such a mundane and repetitive life, this blog topic doesn't change very much from week to week, maybe it is time for a change? Because I don't go out very much and what I do at home is quite monotonous, my list of frugal achievement are very similar week in week out, sorry about that.

Over to you, what is your daily life like, is it quite similar from day to day or do you find you have a lot of variety in your week? Let me know in the comments.

Have a lovely day
