10 Random Things About Me

Hello Dear Reader,

A little while ago the lovely Kristen from "The Frugal Girl" wrote a post called "10 Random Things About Me" and I thought what a wonderful idea and thought I would give it a whirl too. Not that I am that interesting, but when I read Kristen's list it shed some light on other parts of her life she hadn't shared on her blog. I found it quite fun and who doesn't like a bit of fun? So here goes-

1. I only have 1 kidney, my darling Mum had 1 good kidney and 1 malformed kidney, the good kidney failed and she had to have a kidney transplant in 1978. I only found out in 2009 when I was having an ultrasound for a totally unrelated reason.

2. I was a champion Ballroom Dancer. I started dancing at the Molloy Dance Studio in Gympie when I was 6 and went on to win many dance titles with 2 wonderful dance partners throughout my young life. I trained with the Boulton Dance Studio when we moved to Redcliffe, when I was 10. I gave competitive Ballroom dancing away when I was 17, just after I met Lovely Hubby. I went back and re-sat all my medals as an adult, after I had our children and I still go dancing occasionally but it is hard to go out socially and dance when you are married and are only there to dance.

3. I was not a good eater when I was young. My sister tells tales of our Mum pleading with me to eat! I was quite skinny and I am sure I didn't resist food intentionally, maybe I just wasn't hungry, which defies logic, as now I can't stop thinking about food and my next meal.

Ny sister and I on our way to school, skinny legs and all!

4. I never saw myself as a married person. We used to visit a Great Aunt (my Grandfathers Sister) in Banyo when we first moved down to Redcliffe from Gympie. She was a lovely old lady, never married and very independent. She kept a sparkling clean and organised home and I always thought what a great life it would be, to be alone, looking after only yourself. How different my life turned out. I met lovely hubby at 16 and married him at 19, just kids really.

5. I have always owned a bike. My Mum didn't drive, which for her generation was quite the norm, so peddle power it was. All the way through school, and then when I started my first job, I rode everyday. I still have my bike although I have to say I have been very slack of late, I must start riding again.

6. I have a vivid recollection of watching the Neil Armstrong walking on the moon, I would have been 2 years and 2 months old, if indeed I did see the original televised clip. I was standing, mesmerised, in our lounge room in Gympie, watching our huge Black and White TV stream hazy images of a man in a white suit landing on the moon. Is it possible to remember things from so long ago?

7. I am not really a cat person. Funny because we seem to have always had a cat or two. I do love our Ninja but she barely tolerates me, she adores the boys! Typical.

8. I am not attached to any belongings. I can say this with quite a lot of sincerity, I could walk away from material objects in a heartbeat. The more I de-clutter the less hold these items have on me.

9. I learned to drive very late. As I biked everywhere I needed to go, I didn't invest in a drivers licence until I had two young children at home and needed to be more independent.

10. The older I get the less worried I am about my looks. I still look after my skin and have my hair style cut every month and coloured every second month, but that is about it. I don't get manicures, facials, eyebrow waxes or the like, I just keep it simple and that suits me just fine. I sometimes feel like a bit of a dag when I go out in casual clothes only to see other people beautifully dressed with lovely makeup on. But in the end I am okay with me.

So thats my 10 random things about me, want to join in? Leave a comment about your randomness.

Have a lovely day,
💗Fi
