This Weeks 5 Frugal Things on a Friday

Hello Dear Reader,

And hello March and welcome Autumn, but it really hasn't arrived yet, we still are having very hot and humid days, I think someone forgot to tell mother nature to close the oven door! I should not complain, we have had some very welcomed rain and the garden is looking wonderful, so green and so much new growth, it make my heart sing. I have been picking 1 or 2 Red Paw Paws every couple of days which really makes me so happy, they are small but super sweet, to me, being able to pick homegrown produce is a marvel. I have also been picking super sweet pineapples and limes from our garden.

The pineapples are really just a bit of fun, it takes up to 18 months to grow a pineapple, but it is fun and it's free and also an unending cycle, I have kept the spiky tops of all the pineapples we have eaten and will plant them out again soon. I simple "screw" in the spiky tops into either a pot or straight into the soil. I always have success, albeit very slow.

So that is my first frugal thing this week-

1. Picked some fruit from our garden, it brings me so much joy to be able to eat what we have grown

2. Scooped out, washed and dried the seeds from a magnificent pumpkin, over the weekend I will roast these saved seeds with a little oil, 5 spice and salt, they make a  super crunchy and flavoursome treat

3. Made three wonderful meat free recipes this week, so super delicious and we don't miss the meat. It keeps the grocery budget down a bit too.
Thai Inspired Pumpkin Soup
Thai Peanut Soup with Sweet Potato and Spinach (recipe coming soon)

4. Started making a little baby quilt to give as a gift, I picked up the fabric at Spotlight on a fabulous special, the prints are quite retro and cute, I think it will come together nicely. I am loosely following this pattern from Jenny at the Missouri Star Quilt Company.

5. Made a batch of Chocolate and Walnut Blondies with ingredients already in the house, they are so, so delicious, I will share the recipe soon

5a. Made garlic butter subs out of some very ordinary looking long bread rolls that had been kicking around the freezer for a while, they were so good with the Thai Peanut Soup

That's a wrap, how have you stretched your budget this week?

Have a lovely day
