Grans Photos

Hello Dear Reader,

I have a bit of a sad story to tell today and it really is a life lesson. Lovely Hubby's late Grandmother was a truly beautiful woman in all sense of the word. She was kind, generous with her time and love and a true lady. She was always dressed impeccably, with perfect hair and makeup and was always such a stylish beauty.

Gran was always a bit secretive about her first marriage, we still don't know exactly what happened to end her marriage, she just never discussed it with us. But then again, we just didn't ask, we always knew that topic was off limits. Over the last week or so I have started to sort out a big box of photos that were stored at our place (next door to my in-laws) when Gran came to live with them.

I guess the plan was for her to come over and sort through them, but it never happened. I don't know why they weren't in albums, but thankfully they are still in good condition. Ironically the old ones are quite perfect, it was some of the "newer" (from the eighties and nineties) coloured photos that had been affected by moisture.

At some stage (before she moved in next door) gran had gone through some of the really old black and white photos and wrote some details on the back of them. But there are lots with nothing written on them and we have no clue who some of these people are.

There are hundreds of old, amazing, beautiful black and white photos, I have put them into some "Creative Memories" albums that were left over from when my daughter and I did Scrapbooking. I simply don't have the time or energy to tizzy the pages up, I am just laying down a coloured card background and then making a collage with similar themed photos. I did try to do them in chronological order but there were just too many of them. The method I used was to lay them out onto my sewing table and then group them together in similar themes, then put them on to the page.

I have taken photos of the information of the back of the photos, once the albums are filled I will type out what was written on the back and slip this in with the photos, behind the page protector.

The take home message today is-sort your life out, don't leave it for the next generation to do AND tell your family about your history, all of it, the good the bad and the ugly. It is their history too.

Have a lovely day,
💖Fi
