I have been home alone this week as Lovely Hubby has been away over on Moreton Island for a week of fishing with his best mate who lives over there. They have had terrible weather for it, raining most days, you know the last time he went over, which was about the same time last year, the same thing happened. I don't think he will go over in October again! And to add insult to injury they have only caught four fish so far...
I have had to do all the housework and little jobs, that keep the house ticking over, by myself, which include feeding the fish in our salt water aquarium. I have to say it is not my favourite job as I have to peel icky raw prawns and hand feed one very fussy fish. It is the most unusual fish, it hardly moves and doesn't swim around and get excited at feeding time. It just lays there and you hope and pray that a piece of the prawn wafts his way and that he will actually eat it! Talk about difficult.
I've also missed lovely hubby's help around the house, he usually cooks a couple of times a week, vacuums and mops and does the grocery shopping. At the same time, I have just loved being by myself with only me to look after. I have been really slack on the food front, I made a big pot of Beef Ragu with Pappardelle for a family dinner on Saturday before lovely hubby left for Moreton Island, well there was plenty left over and it did me for several lunches and dinners this week.
I then opened a can of beans and have been having some with an egg on toast for three nights, talk about hitting the easy button. I don't mind having the same thing a few nights running. Easy, kinda healthy and frugal.
This coming week will be a busier week though as our darling daughter and partner will be coming down for work for a couple of weeks. Our daughter is celebrating her Birthday this week also and we are planning on a big family dinner. So one frugal week followed by a more spend-y week, swings and roundabouts.
Now on with the frugal stuff-
1. Ate very frugally this week, using up leftovers and keeping it simple.
2. Made another big jar of my most loved muesli, it is the main reason I get up in the morning. I buy own brand oats from Coles, bulk sesame seeds from the Asian shop and nuts and peanuts from Aldi to keep the cost down. As you see it makes a huge quantity
3. Claimed eight scripts of my hormonal troche, that I have made at a compounding pharmacy, through our Health Insurance "Extras" cover. I had quite a few to claim as one claim form has space for five claims, I had eight all together to claim. One script lasts two months.
4. Packed my lunch every day for work
5. Used albums I already had at home to collate Grans photos
Thats my 5 frugal things, what have you done to same money this week?
Have a fab Friday,
