This Weeks 5 Frugal Things on a Friday

Hello Dear Reader,

We have had some terrific rain over this past week, such a blessing and such a difference to the heat too, Summer has finally let go and we are enjoying cooler mornings. My little garden is loving the rain, I know I have said it before, but there is something magical about rain, it is transformative and restorative.

I do seem to harp on about the weather don't I, but it is something that effects us all, especially our farmers, here in Queensland our farmers up north have had some amazing rain, more rain than they have seen in years, which is both a blessing and a curse, there has been some record flooding in some areas with homesteads being cut off and major damage to infrastructure. Talk about a land of contrasts. Here is an article on this rain event.

On the frugal front I have

1. Made another Chocolate and Walnut Blondie to take to work for our monthly combined morning tea, as I had all the ingredients already at home, there was no outlay of money, just a bit of my time in the kitchen.

2. Gave a dear friend some homemade gifts for her birthday, I made one of these cutlery wraps and as she is a wonderful baker, I made a bottle of vanilla essence as well. I already had the material and vanilla pods at home so the only outlay was the bottle of vodka to make the vanilla essence. I bought the material for the cutlery wrap from Spotlight a few weeks ago on a super special, it is the first time I have ever bought pre-cut material (each panel is about 50cm square), I found it a great way to get a good variety of fabrics. Oh and I mended my own cutlery wrap as the ribbon had become tatty and had come away from the seam, so I sewed in a new one. The ribbon was from my sewing stash.

This is straight after I immersed the vanilla pods in the bottles, by the time I gifted the vanilla essence it had coloured up beautifully

3. Almost finished a little baby quilt for a work colleague, I just need to finish the binding and it is ready to gift.

4. Did a smaller shop last week, I had a few bits and bobs to use up in the fridge and freezer so I planned meals around them to use them up. Also on the food front, I always make sure any left overs are very visible in the fridge so they aren't forgotten.

5. Only par-dried the washing in the drier and then hung them on hangers on my laundry airier to finish drying, I hate using the drier as it gobbles the electricity.

Thats a wrap, over to you, what have been your frugal achievements this week.

Have a fab Friday,
💗Fi
