Today I thought I would share what our days look like when we are camping near the beach. I probably have done it before, but hey there is too much beauty in this place not to share again. We both wake quite early, between 5 am and 6 am, neither of us can stay in bed for too long once we are awake. We pop the kettle on the gas burner and walk over to the amenities block to freshen up, then it’s back to make tea, coffee and breakfast. We have a simple breakfast of weetbix, honey and coco quench plus our tea and coffee. Once we have had our breakfast, I usually make our lunches for the day ahead and boil the kettle again for the thermos, I don’t go too far without something to eat and a cup of tea.
I then wash and wipe up, make the bed and sweep out the inside of the camper, even though we are super careful not to walk sand in, it is almost impossible not to, living on the beach. Once that bit of housekeeping is out of the way, we then hit the beach for a days fishing, beachcombing and picking up litter from the beach.
There is less and less shells and more and more litter, beachcombing these days, although in saying that, yesterday morning when we had a good long walk along the beach we only picked up one bag of rubbish plus a few lovely shells, normally we pick up loads of rubbish. I’m not actually bringing home any more shells, we already have enough, I always say Mother Nature will knock on our door one day and ask for all her shells back! I do love them but I feel we are at peak shells in chez SHI.
Just some of the rubbish we picked up off our beach yesterday.
We eat lunch on the beach in between fishing and once the sun starts to go down behind the huge sand hills that line the beach we know it’s time to head home. If we’ve had to hunt further afield for the fish it will take longer to get back to camp, I am always mindful of the time, even on the beach. We like to get back between 4 pm and 5 pm to leave plenty of time for those heavenly $1 bore water showers, I swear a $100 spa treatment wouldn’t leave me feeling as wonderful. Then it’s time for dinner and early bed, wow we are so exciting aren’t we? Like rockstars! The beach air always make me tired and getting into bed early is my thing anyway, so early to bed it is. I usually bring something to read and so does LH, but neither of us, so far, have even turned a page.
And so goes our camping days, happy, simple, enjoying every minute of this beach camping life.
Join in, do you camp, what does your camping day look like? Beach or bush?
Have a lovely day,
