This Weeks 5 Frugal Things on a Friday

Hello Dear Reader,

The end of another week, nothing exciting happening, just time spent between work and home. Sometimes I wonder if I truly have done anything to save money or time. Today I'll just let my mind wander over the last week and see what I come up with.

I've sewn a few more tiny houses for a quilt I am making my little grand niece for Easter, I am trying to do 3 a day. Each tiny house takes me about 15 minutes from cutting to the final press and I'm using material I already have in my stash. I've cooked at home every night as usual, I've made yoghurt and bread and packed my lunch for work each day. I rode to work a couple of days before it got too hot again. I've made toothpaste, hung washing on the line to dry, fed the compost bin fruit and veggie scraps, fed the worm farm the coffee grounds, roasted the saved pumpkin seeds with oil, salt and pepper for a crunchy treat and I started making a list for things I need from the bulk store on Saturday packing the bag with jars ready for the trip.

Ingredients for Vanilla Yoghurt

I avoided the shops by making a thorough shopping list and only shopping once for what we needed for the week ahead. I cleaned the house with home made cleaners-a vinegar solution for the toilets and this home made paste cleaner for the bathrooms, I wipe over the kitchen with eucalyptus oil, a splash of dish washing liquid and really hot water and we use a steam mop on the tiled floors. Made a big pot of pumpkin soup (from the home grown pumpkin) which did us for 2 dinners.

Spicy, Golden, Pumpkin Soup

I took peppermint tea leaves to work and made my own tea so there is no need to buy a takeaway tea, we stuck to the two light rule at night, watched Gardening Australia on IVIEW while I was sewing last Sunday to make the most of my time, Lovely Hubby finished off the new irrigation system which is attached to our new water tanks, it works a treat. Made a simple and delicious loaf using ingredients already at home.

Removed one of the spent pumpkin vines and bought some more compost and manure to improve the garden bed I removed it from. This garden bed also contains the lemon tree, lime tree, ginger and comfrey, I think it needs a good feed before we plant anything else in there. I found nematodes on the pumpkin vine root, so I'll have to plant something that will balance out nematodes in the soil. Ate a couple of meat free meals to stretch out the budget.

Roast Pumpkin Baked Semolina Gnocchi

I par-dried our uniforms in the drier and hung them up straight from the drier on hangers to prevent having to iron them, I saved the warm up water to hydrate the potted plants, even with the rain it is amazing how quickly they dry out, I informed my salary sacrifice service of the increase in our monthly health insurance premium so they know the correct amount to pay directly for us, we used fish and prawns from the freezer for a couple of meals and we had our usual beans on toast for a simple Friday night dinner.

And that is all I can think of at the moment. Join in.What did you do this week to save money or time?

Have a lovely day,
