This Weeks 5 Frugal Things on a Friday

Hello Dear Reader,

The fishing team (AKA Lovely Hubby, our Son and his Partner) have a fishing competition on this weekend, which means I will have two days all to myself. Don't get me wrong, I love having Lovely Hubby around, but I also love being alone. I'm a bit of a loner and love it that way. Am I weird that I don't actively seek out company? I spend all day with people and mostly love that interaction, but I also love the solitude that home brings, just me pottering around my home, cooking, washing, cleaning, gardening and sewing.

My plans for the weekend include starting a new quilt for my eldest grand niece, she will be 8 this year. I finally finished the quilt that I have been working on for what seems like years for my youngest Grand Niece and it felt so good to be sewing again, I want to keep that momentum going. The idea for the quilt came from "The Missouri Star Quilt Company" youtube clip and was a labour of love. I splashed out and purchased the pre-cuts from "MSQC" and was the most amount of money I had ever spent on quilting material, I still have a little bit of this material left over, so that will probably show up in the next quilt.

The next quilt will be based on "The Tiny House" quilt, again from "MSQC". I have been having a bit of a play but can't quite seem to get the measurements right. I have watched and re-watched the clip dozens of times and don't know where I'm going wrong. They do say on the clip that not all 1/4 inches are the same when it comes to sewing machines, that must be it!

Now on with the frugal stuff-

1. Finally finished the above mentioned quilt for my youngest Grand Niece, not all together frugal but it's finished, at last. Any hobby isn't frugal if you're not using stuff you've already bought. The quilt will be an Easter present for her.

Aren't the patterns just beautiful

And the quality of the material is lovely, worth the money.

2. Line dried all the washing

3. Saved the warm up water from the shower and used it to hydrated some potted plants, it is still so very hot during the day and can you believe it, but there is a possibility of another cyclone forming off our coast! Weird for this time of year!

4. Made another batch of thick and creamy vanilla yogurt from 1 litre of milk

5. Saved seeds from one of my home grown pumpkins to roast when the oven is on next. I roast them with 5 spice, salt and oil.  If you're wondering, the little pottery bowl was made for me by our very talented future Son-in-Law, he can turn his hand to anything, it seems.

Over to you, do you enjoy solitude? And are there any quilters reading, what project are you working on at the moment?

Have a lovely day,
💗Fi
