Well, have I got an exciting little post for you today, isn't my life just thrilling? Did you know it makes a difference how you measure out your flour when baking? Well, it does and I'm going to explain why.
A little while ago I made a batch of scones and instead of filling the empty flour container with the new bags of flour I impatiently just measured out the flour directly from the packet of flour. I poured it into the 1 cup measure and got on with recipe. When I added the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, I knew something wasn't right, the mixture was way too wet and it got me thinking, had the way I measured out the flour made the difference. After adding more flour and rescuing the scones, I did this little experiment.
You can play along at home if you like to see the difference.
Scoop and Level
Scoop your flour from your container using a one cup measuring cup
And level with the back of a butter knife
For a one cup measure, this will yield 146 grams of flour
Where as pouring flour from a packet or container of flour will yield only 116 grams, that is a 30 gram difference, enough to make or break whatever you're baking. Baking is a science and your measurements need to me accurate. Thank you and your welcome.
Your turn to weigh in on this argument, to scoop and level or to pour out, what do you do?
Have a lovely day,
