Oat and Peanut Butter Dog Treats

Hello Dear Reader,

In a bid to stop one more bit of single use plastic packaging coming into the house I have started to make dog treats for our little woofs. As both of them are well over middle aged (9 & 10) they have had their fair share of teeth problems and have both had extractions. I was finding that the small dog treats we were buying were a little tricky for them to eat, so I set about researching how to make soft, nutritious dog treats.

Wow, there were so many recipes to choose from, some more entailed than others, like rolling out and using a dog bone shaped cutter to cut them out, um, no, I don't have time for that. But this one caught my eye, it is a super simple 5 ingredient dough and best of all it is made in my Thermomix but again any good food processor would do the trick.

You simply roll the super soft dough into small balls, lightly press them with your fingers and bake them. The little woofs love them so much and I feel good not buying any of the ingredients for this recipe in a plastic bag as the oats, flour and peanut butter come from the bulk store, the molasses comes in a glass jar and the cocoquench (my milk substitute) comes in a recyclable pack.

Ingredients for Oat and Peanut Butter Dog Treats, from left-1 cup smooth peanut butter, 2 teaspoons molasses, 1/2 cup milk of choice, 1/4 cup wholemeal flour and 1 cup old fashioned oats

Add the oats to the bowl of the TM

Blitz for 5 seconds on speed 7, you should now have oat flour

Add all other ingredients

And again blitz for 5 seconds on speed 4 or until a soft dough has formed

Roll into, slightly smaller than golf ball size, balls

Pop onto a lined tray and gently flatten with your fingers, bake them in a 170C for 15 minutes or until just turning golden

I've been giving our little woofs 2 each in the morning after their morning walk and 1 after dinner at night, they just love them.

For our size dogs, which are Jack Russell's, these are the perfect mouthful and as I said, nice and soft for their teeth to handle. I'm sure you could roll them bigger and cook them longer to suit your doggy. This quality makes 30 little dog treats but the recipe could be easily doubled.

Over to you, have you made dog treats for your fur baby? If so, what recipe do you use?

Have a lovely day,
🐶Fi
