We are at the stage in life where we don't need another thing for our home, we are content with what we have collected and accumulated over the years. Previously I have posted about my decluttering of items that we no longer love, are no longer useful or no longer align themselves with our values. That decluttering of my home was interrupted by the clearing out of my late in-laws home, earlier in the year, in preparation for our son and his partner to move in.
I have continued to declutter odds and ends from our home as I find them but haven't posted them on my page "My Second Year of Less Stuff" in fact the last time I updated that page was back in March this year. I guess my no longer needed stuff just took a backseat to everything that needed to go from next door.
As I look around my home I love the things that we have and use on a regular basis, so today I thought I would share a few of those most favourite things.
1. I love this butchers block/island bench/really don't know what you call it? I picked it up from a second hand dealer about 6 years ago, I wanted a granite topped table to finish kneading my bread dough on and it is perfect for this job. It is really solid and holds all my most used bowls, casserole dishes, pie dishes and small bowls perfectly. It also has fantastic long draws that can be accessed from both sides, those draws hold so much.
2. This prayer/altar table belonged to my late in-laws and is such a beautiful and practical piece. It holds all my recipe books, often used bowls and platters, my cherished, bright blue Le Cruset Dutch Oven and now holds our new Harmon/Kardon bluetooth speaker. I play free music from Spotify through these amazing speakers, the sound quality is crystal clear.
3. This beautiful old converted wardrobe was refurbished by my late FIL many many years ago, probably about 40 years ago, I have seen photos of this display unit in very old photos from my late in-laws home. It holds all of my dinner settings and beautiful bright coloured platters. Those deep draws hold all my tablecloths and cloth serviettes.
4. This chaise lounge, it also belonged to my late in-laws and at one stage was covered in dark blue velvet. We had it recovered in this neutral beige embossed patterned fabric about 10 years ago and I just love it. Unfortunately Ninja our black cat also loves it so I need to vacuum it often other wise it would be black.
5. Our dining setting which is again a hand me down from my late in-laws. When my late in-laws moved in next door to where we are now they upgraded their furniture to reflect a more modern home than they had had previously. My late in-laws always had beautiful old homes that they lovingly restored so their furniture was always antique in style. We gladly accepted this beautiful old table and chairs and we still love it. I don't think we will ever upgrade. The upholstery on the chairs was originally the same as the chaise, dark blue velvet, it is now a neutral beige embossed fabric similar to the chaise lounge.

These items bring me joy everyday just by looking at them, they complete our home and you can probably see why we don't need another thing in our home.
What are some of your favourite things?
Have a lovely day,
