This Weeks 5 Frugal Things on a Friday

Hello Dear Reader,

The best thing I love about my job is that the travel time, is next to nothing, in the car, it's about 3 minutes and by bike it's about 7 minutes, I know, totally and utterly spoilt. I don't think I would cope with a long commute everyday, it would take away my precious time at home.

I am such a creature of habit, I love my simple boring life and I don't mind doing the same thing everyday, I get up at the same time, I eat breakfast at a similar time, I go to and leave work at the same time and so goes my day.

I embrace routine and conformity, it works well for me. It spills over into my whole life, I have a housework schedule so by the end of any fortnight the whole house has had a go over and it is generally clean and tidy. I wash on the same days each week, I write the menu and shopping list on the same day and even my afternoons have a similar rhythm. Unpack, wash and repack my lunch for the next day, start on dinner early and make a start on what needs doing that afternoon followed by a walk with the little woofs. See, isn't my life exciting?

Now on with the frugal stuff-

1. I made a little cat blanket out of the left over thrifted fabric from when I made the dog coats. Ninja, our little black cat, loves my sewing room, actually she loves my sewing table to be exact and loves to lay on any fabric I may have left out. I now have her blanket on the table so she can lay there in comfort. And at least her black fur will be contained to just one area, here's hoping anyway.

2. Used the slow cooker to make Dulce de Leche, which was used to make a Banoffee Pie. I had two daggy bananas that needing using up, and nothing uses up daggy bananas better than a Banoffee. I also used the slow cooker to make this dinner during the week. The slow cooker uses minimal power and saves time. The condensed milk from Aldi is $1.49 a can compared to Nestle Top and Fill which is $4.75  a can.

3. Bought some heavily discounted washing powder and some veggie seeds from a discount shop not too far from me. It was about a 25 minute drive up the highway, last Sunday morning, a bit of a drive but worth it for the savings. The veggie seeds were $1.69 a packet and the Radiant was $1 a box.

4. Saved the shower warm up water and watered the big potted plants to keep them hydrated

5. Fed, turned and watered the compost bin, It is almost full and getting quite hard to turn. I will stop feeding it soon and let it brew a bit longer before adding it to the new garden beds when I am planting out. I really can't wait. The compost itself looks and smells wonderful.

I add the fruit and veg scraps (green/nitrogen) first then turn them in, followed by scrap paper and cardboard (brown/carbon) they get a good stir in too

I finish with the shredded paper from the office then water the while lot in

That's a wrap, you're turn, how did you save money this week?

Have a great day,
💗Fi
