We have had some welcomed rain during the week, it was perfect timing as lovely hubby finished the raised garden beds on Monday afternoon and that night it started to rain. It has also been quite cool in the mornings and evenings, a very cool start to spring. I am sure it won't be long though until we start having very warm days though.
I mentioned last week that I am struggling with my energy level, the good news is all blood tests have come back clear, no thyroid issues, iron level is good and my cholesterol is perfect. Also no markers for tumours which is always a relief. I just need to stop doing so much and take it a bit easier on myself. We have a long weekend coming up, thanks to Queen Lizzie's Birthday, it will be a welcomed 3 day break.
AND as the raised garden beds are finished, guess what we'll be doing this long weekend? That's right, we will be starting to plant them out. The first plants to go in will be our lemon and lime trees, the lemon tree is looking pretty healthy, it's the lime tree that will need some serious cutting back (gall wasp) and a good spray with white oil to control leaf curl. As we dig the big holes for the citrus to be planted in, we will be laying down fish frames in the bottom to enrich the soil and give the citrus lots of nutrients. We learnt this trick from a friend of my late FIL's who did this with all his fruit and veggies. Lovely hubby has been keeping the fish frames in the fish freezer as he has been filleting them.
This is what I got up to on the frugal front this past week-
1. Used 1/2 a bottle of thickened cream that was in the freezer to make some light as air scones to take to work for morning tea.
2. Made a few more cutlery wraps and gave them to work colleges as a little surprise gift, using fabric from my stash. I bought quite a few fat quarters from Spotlight a while ago when they were on a super special. One fat quarter makes 2 cutlery wraps.
Ninja supervising as usual
3. Used all left overs up in a timely manner. I put everything that needs using up front and centre in the fridge so nothing goes to waste. Once a week I have been making a frittata out of any leftover veg, one egg, chopped spring onion and some grated cheese melted over the top to have for lunch. No waste and a delicious lunch, win, win!
4. Cleaned the house with homemade cleaners, I especially love this Miracle Spray, I use it on everything except mirrors.
5. Bought some marked down produce from a local supermarket, they will help to stretch the food dollar.
All of this for $5.75 from Woolworths, this produce is still in perfect condition.
And $7.92 spent at Coles

How did you save money this week?
Have a lovely day,
