I know this is not a new thing, but it is new to me. I read years ago about making your own brown sugar on Rhonda's blog-Down to Earth and thought what a great idea. Well, fast forward a few more years, last weekend I finally got around to making brown sugar.
Why make my own when you can buy it readily? This year I really want to try to avoid plastic wrap as much as I can and the only way I know, apart from bulk stores, to buy brown sugar is in a plastic bag. I buy white sugar in a paper bag from Aldi, as it is the best value place to buy everyday basic ingredients. The other bonus is that the "Blue Label" brand of molasses is sold in a glass jar, so I feel it is win for the environment making your own brown sugar.
Ingredients for home made Brown Sugar, for every 250 grams of white sugar you will need 15 grams of molasses
I made a double batch so in went 500 grams of white sugar and also 30 grams of molasses. When you pour in the molasses try to pour over the sugar, avoiding the edges if you can
Blitz on reverse, speed 6 for 8 seconds, scrape down sides and bottom of TM bowl
Then repeat as above
Almost instant Brown Sugar and not a piece of single use plastic in sight!
Over to you, how do you avoid single use plastic in your everyday life?
Have a lovely day,
💗Fi
