We decided to do a little cruise with P&O on board the Pacific Aria for this quarter of the year, we would normally go camping, but found it way too hot last year and vowed not to go camping again in summer. Once we are set up it’s fine but the setting up and taking down of the camp that is just too much for me, I often end up with a splitting headache from the intense heat.
I looked on line and found a 4 night coastal cruise with P & O, which is the budget line in Australia, we have cruised with them before and have always been very happy with their service and quality. Day 1 was boarding in Brisbane from the Port of Hamilton, it was a seamless process with arriving at the port at 11am and being actually in our room by 12.05. The ground staff were exceptional and were what made all the difference in the seamless boarding process.
Once on board we headed up to the Waterfront Restaurant for lunch, I felt like something light and ordered a toasted cheese sandwich, what I got was the ultimate in cheese toaties with 3 pieces of bread sandwiched with miles of gooey, stretchy, cheese with Dijon mustard in between, it was so delicious but not light like I invisaged. Lovely hubby got the better end of the deal selecting a light chicken noodle Pad Thai, he said it was delicious and just right for a light lunch.
After unpacking our few clothes we headed to the Monkey Bar to book our dinners for the next 4 nights, choosing Dragon Lady, Luke Mangan’s Salt Grill (extra charges applied for this one) Angelos and for the final night (tonight) we chose The Waterfront again. We have not been disappointed one little bit, each restaurant has been excellent with wonderful service and attention to detail. The staff are very well trained, beautifully dressed and are well versed in their menus. The main reason we love cruising is the food (no surprises there) it is always great quality with lots of choice and the presentation is always restaurant quality.
As I type this little post we have turned around and are heading back to Brisbane, as it was raining buckets in Airlie beach yesterday, our tour was cancelled and we decided not to get off the boat to go into Airlie beach. There was a tender transfer (they use the life boats for transporting passengers into the port) as well as a big catamaran to get passengers to and from Airlie. Not too many people made the trip and were very happy to stay on board, there is always lots to do or in our case we went to one of the many lovely lounges (the Blue Lounge) and read, in between napping and lunching. We did ask a few people that did go ashore what they did, the answer was, they just looked through a few very crowded shops (there was another cruise ship in) got wet and then jumped back on the catamaran to come back to the ship, so I feel we didn’t miss out on anything.
So, all in all, not a very exciting holiday but a totally relaxing one, the stress I seem to carry in my shoulders has almost gone and as always I am in bed super early, the bed is quite comfortable with a lovely low line pillow, just like I like. We have been doing a long walk around the deck after breakfast everyday, completing 11 laps which is about the 4.4 km I need to do for the 1000 mile in a year challenge. We do the walking track on deck 6 which is protected from the weather. There has been lots of people doing the same thing and there is even a “Walk a Mile” activity with one of the entertainment staff, every day there have been up to 8 ladies doing this activity with the lovely Meghan.
However this morning, the deck is closed because of the wind gusts and high rolling seas, so no long walk today.
Sorry for the lack of photos in today's blog, I will update it when we get home, in the cruise package we received 2 x 250mb internet vouchers, of which we've used little, so this morning I am using the ships internet cafe to finish this blog post. I have been unable to upload the photos from the last few days but would you believe they were mostly photos of food!
Have a lovely day,
