Hello Dear Reader,
I see some amazing sunsets while walking late in the afternoon
This year I am joining in with Ilona's, AKA, Mean Queen's
1000 mile in a year challenge . She is an avid walker and apart from her every day walks she does some long tramps around her beautiful country, she often does a few days to a few weeks away, to some splendid walking tracks and countryside. I really enjoy the photos she posts of her walks through the oh-so-green countryside, steeped in history (hello castles and stately homes) with magnificent vistas and beautiful old trees, so very different from our wide brown land.

Converting the 1000 miles in a year, I have to do 1609 km, which works out to be
4.40 km per day. As I don't have any extra time in the day to commit to a full 4.40 km walk, which takes about 45 minutes for me, I will be doing a mixture of riding to and from work, hopefully most day, and two dog walks, one small one in the morning and one long one in the afternoon. The ride to work is 2.04 km, so in total with the return journey it's 4.08 km and the combined dog walks are 2.54 km.

This doesn't and hasn't happened every day for the past month, so with the swings and roundabout of life, my total for the month of January is 140.87 km or 87.5 miles or approximately
4.54 km per day. So, I'm just ahead for the month.
I am sure as it cools down I will feel enthused to do more, I have been arriving at work a big old sweaty mess and it takes me ages to cool down. I'm really not much of a sweater usually, but boy does my deodorant get a work out.
I love walking, it's free for starters, you don't need special clothes for it, you can do it anywhere, at anytime of year, the only thing I need is comfortable shoes and a good hat. Free, frugal, fitness.
