In The Beginning

Hello Dear Reader,

The very first photo on my blog, my sourdough starter

Today I thought I would share something I found on Monday as I de-cluttered the office, I found a sheath of post-it notes that I had jotted the following on, along with a print out from when I did my blogging course with Rhonda from Down to Earth. I really can't remember if it was something I did on the day or some homework that Rhonda suggested. There is the bones of my bio that you can read on my blog. There is also a flashback of how we used to do life. I honestly don't know how we did it all.

Typed verbatim from the post-it notes-there was no date on them. I think the dot points at the end were to be elaborated on.

"The minute you leave your home things are left alone and undone. True happiness lies within your home and garden, more acquisitions do not, in most cases, equal more happiness. In fact people can feel burdened by "stuff". That "stuff" needs to be cleaned, dusted, polished, maintained, disinfected and for what? Just so next week you can do it all that cleaning of all that "stuff" again.

I am not a hard core minimalist but I don't have a lot of "stuff" I surround myself with practical, useful and beautiful things that bring me joy. I love my home, I love being in my home. I love writing a list for the day and get a thrill ticking of that list. Boring? Old fashioned? Yep! but I love it.

I meal plan, shop locally, eat seasonally and grow what I can. In the garden I have more failures than success but I keep giving it a go, learning by mistakes.

Of course I do leave my home, I work full time in an occupation that offers a good work/life balance, however my afternoons and weekends are spent at home doing what I love-cooking, sewing, gardening and of course the other not so nice things such as cleaning and washing. I tackle these not so nice things by making a list and just getting on with it, I try not to procrastinate by procrasti-baking! My fortnightly list looks like this-

I would have then slotted in my housework list here-

As you can see LH does the shopping, vacuuming and mopping-his contribution to the housework as he has more time that I do.

We as a family are a very small unit, 1 son, 1 daughter, 1 MIL, 1 sister, 1 niece, 1 nephew, 1 nephew in law and 2 grand nieces. I try and give as much support as I can. My MIL lives next door and is very unwell, so we make and take dinner over to her every night. While there we do what is needed to help keep her home humming along. She is fortunate to be able to afford a good house cleaner and good health care without those LH and I would not be able to keep up with her home as well as ours"

A bit of a blast from the past but at the heart of it, it was and is still me, what I am all about, how I live my life, what motivates me, what make me tick and the things I love.

Over to you, have you ever discovered an old diary or indeed just something you jotted down on post-it notes from a while ago? Did it still resonate with you? Or have your values changed so much that you can no longer identify with it?

Have a lovely day
