What we bought, spent and ate this week

Hello Dear Reader,

We've again had some showers overnight, nothing amazing but better that the 5 second showers that we've been having lately. I think the rain we had overnight actually went into the soil! In fact it has just started raining again, the little woofs may not get their early morning walk in this morning.

We went back to the little organic, free range butcher last Saturday to have a look at what he stocks as the last time we went there was a closing time and except for sausages there was nothing left in the display case. We met a different butcher this time, he introduced himself as Jason, as in "Jason's Quality Meats" now I was confused as the last time we were there I thought we met the owner and his son. Anyway this Jason was just lovely and knew his products very well.

I have pictured below what we bought and even though it doesn't look like a lot, it did cost us a small fortune. As I've written before, we now want to source free range meat and the cost is of course more than supermarket meat. It is the price I am prepared to pay for having a clearer conscience. This meat will probably last us a good month as we eat fish, prawns and meatless meals as well, it has been a long time since we ate meat everyday.

Now, on with what else we bought, spent and ate this week-

What we bought

Coles Groceries

The Aldi Shop

Groceries from the Northside Discount Fruit Barn

The bulk items from Simply Good. If you're wondering what I'm going to do with the mung beans, I'm going to have a go at making this Mung Bean Bread.

AND the meat from Jason's Quality Meats, there was also a container of chicken thighs that didn't make it into the photo. There is meat in plastic bags, unfortunately, as we just didn't bring enough containers.

What we spent

Coles-$21.10
Aldi-$64.05
Northside Discount Fruit Barn-$30.75
Simply Good Bulk Store-$19.80
Jason's Quality Meats-$180.00-you read right!

TOTAL-$315.70
What we ate

Friday and Saturday-Caribbean Curry with yoghurt, chutney and papadums (Thermomix Recipe)

Sunday and Monday-Asian Chicken Noodle Soup (Thermomix Recipe)

Tuesday-Just me for dinner so I had an egg with a vegemite and cheese toastie

Wednesday-just me again so I made Shakshuka for one

Thursday-Apricot Chicken Risotto (Thermomix Recipe)

So, I know that was a lot of money to spend at the butcher, but I really feel, for us, that it is a better choice. I understand how lucky we are to be able to make this choice and do not take it lightly. I will detail exactly what we bought in a post next week.

Over to you, what was on your family table this week?

Have a lovely day,
💚Fi
